Life comes in waves, Balance Fam.
Sometimes it’s smooth sailing, and other times the tides are rocky. Although it may not always seem like it, we’re here to remind you: you’re in control. Maybe you can’t predict how the waves will hit, but you do have the power to choose how you let them affect you.
Last week we talked about the importance of taking breaks in order to truly optimize your productivity and prevent burnouts prior to reaching your goals. This week, we’re sharing just how crucial it is to build your mental endurance so that you’re prepared to keep going despite any bumps, turns, or blocks that may come up along the road to reaching your goals.
Whether you have your life planned out to a T or you’re taking it step by step, here’s how you can mentally prepare for anything that’s thrown your way:
Life is a journey. We’re all on a venture of our own and along the way, there will be both highs and lows for us to face.
You will experience strong highs, like anything and everything in life is going swimmingly. You will feel especially grateful, happy, and at peace–but then adversity may appear to re-ground you. Through the difficulties in life, it’s imperative you remember that how you decide to let it affect you is your choice.
You are entitled to feel any and all emotions that come with your adversity, but you are also deserving of the benefits that come with a mindset shift. See the good in the bad and learn to cope with adversity in a way that brings you new light.
There will be times of hardships, failure, challenges, and stress, but luckily you have the power to manipulate your mindset in each of these circumstances.
You always have the choice to shift your mindset. Learn from failure as though it is your teacher. Face challenges with an “I got this” attitude and exercise your inner strength. Practice and strengthen your problem-solving skills so you’re ready for whatever can come up in life.
Deciding to see the positive in the negative seems more easily said than done, but with intentional practice, it can fuel your mental endurance.
There may be times when it feels like you can’t catch a break, your whole world is crashing, and you’re left in a sea of dishearten. But if you can bring some light back into your heart and think about the slightest bit of positivity, you can replace your sorrow thoughts with gratitude and hope.
In each new test, the light will begin to grow and you will be able to see the positive in every situation, rather than stressing the negative.
When you choose optimism, your mental endurance will prosper.
Who you surround yourself with is a reflection of who you are. To build a support system of like-minded people is to create a community that lifts you up, encourages you, and is there to push you out of your comfort zone when you need it most.
Oftentimes, no matter how hard we try, we can still get in our own heads and fight ourselves when life gets tough. Instead of letting yourself get in your way, find people you can rely on when you need it most. Spend time on these supportive relationships you have, focus on how they make you better, and let your people hold you accountable.
No one is expected to go through life alone. We all need an outlet: people to confide in, a shoulder to lean on when we need it most, someone to talk to to get us through the lows.
When it comes down to it, love, kindness, and support will be there to help you persevere.
Taking care of your body, mind, and spirit is one of the most important things you can do to fuel your endurance. If all that you are doing is constantly pushing your entire being to perform without giving it proper care, you will inevitably begin to weaken.
Nourish your body. Feed it with the whole, nutritious meals it needs not just to work, but to thrive. If you’re getting caught in the hustle of your day, leading you to rush your food decisions, then it may be time to start setting yourself up for success. Plan out your meals, prep them in advance, and schedule specific times in your day to avoid grabbing a quick fix or meal that will ultimately make you feel more sluggish. Nourishing your body also includes giving it the quality sleep it needs. This means turning off all screens (and yes, that includes your phone!) well in advance of resting your head for the night. This will give your mind the quiet it needs to drift off into those peaceful z’s and wake up feeling refreshed. Focusing in on these things will give your body the nutrients and rest it needs to take you as far as you want to go.
Nourish your mind. Provide it with the powerful environment you need to keep going. Do you need time to relax? Maybe that means mindlessly watching your favorite Netflix show or finally picking up your favorite book series you’ve been meaning to finish reading. Do you need a challenge? Learn a new skill that will enhance either your work, or your side passion. Reflect on what your mind is craving, and give it what it needs so it can flourish in all other aspects of your life.
Nourish your spirit. Specifically, make time to do the things your soul enjoys. It could mean spending more time socializing with friends and family, or spending time alone embracing the quiet. Giving a call to that person that never fails to make you laugh. Taking a walk outside in the sunshine to your favorite coffee shop. Praying, meditating, journaling. Whatever it is you choose, you will surely revitalize your spirit with love and joy.
Develop a constant awareness of how your mind, body, and spirit are feeling and you will fuel your mental endurance.
Wherever you are & in whatever you’re doing, keep going.
Whether you realize it or not, you are constantly overcoming obstacles and transforming among all waves of life. Be proud of everything you’ve accomplished and continue to prepare yourself for what is to come.
Keep pushing, working, & moving forward.
Train your mind and build resilience. With this, you can make new strides. Building your mental endurance will help you to improve each and every day.
You will become stronger, better, and closer to your aspirations.
